Omloop done, now the Strade Bianche

Omloop done, now the Strade Bianche

Its almost a week ago that I won the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. And tomorrow its time for the next classic: the Strade Bianche. I hope to have a lot of fun. My shape is good, so I can’t wait to start.

We didn’t have a lot of time to cellebrate my victory in the Omloop, because on Sunday we had to ride Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne. But the champagne was good, also after the second race, which we also won with the team with Bob Jungels.

I had to wait for a long time to win a big race again. I didn’t win for 20 months, and now I won two times in two weeks. I think that my stage victory in the Algarve helped me win the Omloop. It gave me a lot of confidence.

When Greg Van Avermaet attacked on the Bosberg, it was orginally my intension to go myself. I thought, when he slows down, it’s my turn to go, but on the other hand: it was still 13 kilometers to the finishline.

In the final kilometers I knew Tim Wellens would try to finish solo. He attacked and Van Avermaet and Alexey Lutsenko went straight after him. So I said to myself: when they sit down again, it will be a good moment to try to go myself.

I placed my attack and it turned out perfect. In the last hounderd meters I turned twice back, because I really could not believe it. I enjoyed every second of applause from the fans rather than thinking of something specific.

Hopefully I also have a lot of fun in the Strade Bianche tomorrow. We did a good recon with the team. The weatherconditions will be diffrerent then other years: it will be a sunny and dusty day.
