The Tour of California is over. In the last stage Quick Step Floors tried to make it a bunch sprint, but failed. The victory went again to the American Evan Huffmann. George Bennett won the overall classification.
“It was a hard race here. I was hoping to get a little bit of competition rhythm, but it was really hard and I did suffer a lot. Also in the time trail of Friday. That was on an altitude of 2.100 meters. Not so easy. But it was a good test for my new time trail position.”
The last stage started dangerous. “With a downhill… very stupid. It causes some crashes of course. After that we had 3 categorized climbs and the peloton went full gas. We did what we could to make it a sprint, but it didn’t work out.”
“We went flat out all of us, but was just impossible. Still it was a great team spirit and we worked as team as we are used to do.”
