Styby helps Meersman to a stage win

Gianni Meersman has won the second stage of the Vuelta a Espana. It’s the first stage win for Etixx-Quick Step. Styby helped Meersman win by dropping him off with 300 meters to go. “Now we can continue the Vuelta with a more relax feeling.”

“Today our goal was, just like yesterday, to win the stage. We wanted a sprint so we had to make sure that there would not be a dangerous breakaway. Luckily it wasn’t the case. Only the heat made the stage a little tougher. But I had some good trainings at Mallorca for that.”

The final was a bit chaotic. “Yves Lampaert and I didn’t found each other on the right moment. So I brought Gianni to the front with about 300-400 meters from the finish. And Gianni won. I am so happy for him. It gives a good feeling to all the team.”

“Tomorrow it will be a damn hard finish with slopes up to 30%. I did it already 2 times and probably I will rather run :)”
