Styby helps Martin and Kwiatkowski

The fourth stage of the Volta ao Algarve was won by Richie Porte. The Australian of Team Sky was a little bit stronger than Michal Kwiatkowski. Zdenek finished after a series of attacks in 20th place. “It was fun today.”

“It was another tough stage with several climbs. With Tony Martin and Michal Kwiatkowski on second and third in the general classification, we decided to go for the victory. So Tony attacked with 40 kilometers to go.”

The German didn’t get any space. “And so I tried it myself once. But like Tony, I did not get away. Tony tried it again several times and so did I. Actually, it was nice and I really enjoyed it. Pity that it didn’t work out and nobody helped us.”

“I must say that Team Sky was very strong today. They always got back the attackers and at the end Porte won. He was impressive. In the general classification Kwiatkowski is now 27 seconds behind of Geraint Thomas.”

Tomorrow is the last stage. “And then I fly to Mallorca with my wife. Later in the week I’ll return to Belgium for the opening weekend with the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne on Sunday.”
