Styby takes third place in Heusden-Zolder

Lars van der Haar has won the world cup race in Heusden-Zolder. Styby was one of the most aggressive riders and became third. “I made a mistake in the last lap after the stairs. Maybe I could have won here. But I’m satisfied anyway, because I didn’t think I could fight for the win.”

Zdenek had to start on row three, but was already after 200 meters on the front of the race. That was important, because the track was very fast. Niels Albert and Sven Nys took a bad start and never saw the head of the race. But Styby did, and he showed himself several times.

Nobody was able to make a gap on their own and the race was decided in the last lap. He was in second position when he made a mistake after the stairs. “I was in the wheel of Van der Haar. I thought: perfect. But I made a little mistake because I didn’t find my pedal fast enough. And he got away.”

Also Martin Bina went over him and Styby became third. “I really thought I could have win until I made that mistake. But I’m satisfied. Yesterday it was a long day and we had to ride 700 kilometers from Czech Republic to Belgium. It was very late last night.”

“Tomorrow I will race in Loenhout, and after that Bredene on Saturday and Diegem on Sunday. I know what to do the next couple of days. Hopefully we Czechs do it good there also, because today there was not only Bina and I, as well Adam Toupalik, who won the race for the juniors. Good for our country!”
