Zdenek became 20th in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday. Our champion attacked a few times, but came too short to win. The Danish rider Michael Valgren Andersen won the race.
Sep Vanmarcke attacked in the final on the Muur van Geraardsbergen and Styby went with him. Just before the Bosberg, the last climb of the day, a group of ten riders came back.
There was no good relationship between the leaders, and the peloton came closer and closer. Valgren Andersen jumped away with two kilometer to go and he won.
Lukasz Wisniowski and Sep Vanmarcke went into the counterattack and became second and third. The rest of the group, including our favorite, were overwhelmed by the peloton.
“I can be quite happy about the race, but of course the result was not what I wished for. But I guess that’s just sport. Anyway I have a good feeling about the race and about the condition.”
“My next race will be on Tuesday with Le Samyn and then on Saturday off to my favorite race: the Strade Bianche.”
