Etixx-Quick Step wins in Kuurne

One day after the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad the Etixx-Quick Step Team can celebrate: it won Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne. Mark Cavendish was the fastest after 200 kilometer in a bunch sprint. Styby rode a good race and became 35th.

“There was a lot of wind today. The first part of the race the wind was in the back, in the second part it was all headwind. After the Oude Kwaremont, about 70 kilometers from the end, we were leading a group of 20 riders with also our leader Cavendish.”

The team was there with five guys, and so again in the ascendancy. “Because of that, some of the guys didn’t want to ride, so the peloton came back in the final. However, the plan remained the same: a sprint for Cavendish. And that plan worked. ‘Cav’ was very strong.”

“I’m happy we could take a win this weekend. I felt better then yesterday, which is also a good sign. My next race is the Strade Bianche. I really look forward to this race. I have never done this race, but I think it should suit me well. After de Strade Bianche follows Tirreno-Adriatico.”
