Styby wins the Memorial Frank Vandenbroucke!

Our champion has successfully finished his road season. Zdenek was the strongest in the Memorial Frank Vandenbroucke. “It’s very nice to end the season this way. But I’m not going to rest yet, because on Sunday I will start in my first cyclocross race of the winter. I’m looking forward to it.”

“The team has worked very hard all day. That is our strength: everyone is always motivated. Thomas De Gendt rode all day in front of the peloton and did great work. Martin Velits and Stijn Vandenbergh showed themselves earlier in the breakaway and Niki Terpstra worked for me in the final.”

The plan was simple: attack in the final kilometer. “I had to, because John Degenkolb was still in the peloton. A very fast man. So I had to try something. The last kilometer was hard, with cobbles and a few percent uphill. Good for me. And it worked out perfectly. I immediately had a few seconds.”

“The peloton came close in the last 50 meters, but I had enough advantage to take the victory. I’m of course very happy with this. After my crash in the Eneco Tour, I was never 100%, but since the World Championship in Ponferrada every day I feel a little better. It’s very nice to finish my road season like this.”
